found a job mitt romney could be just perfect at. he has the perfect resume and all of the right credentials. how about mitt romney accountant in chief. why? because he knows how to find every single loophole and exploit every tax break in the books. and i think he should include this in his job application. a new report shows mitt romney avoided paying big taxes on a trust fund he set up on his children's inheritance. he did it in a trust fund called, i dilg it. i'm serious. that's what it's called. i dig it. now, you may not dig it but governor romney certainly did. saving hundreds and thousands of taxes according to bloomberg. that's the same kind of creative accounting that allowed him to get a 14.1% tax rate. and now his running mate says, it just doesn't benefit america. >> this money creates jobs so you'll want to have more capital that goes to more businesses, especially small businesses like this one so more people and what we learned about mitt romney and his tax returns, he's a successful businessman. that's a good thing. >> ah, patriotism. this money creates jobs. pro

. all right, that's great. thank you. >> it's possible to forgive poor mitt romney for feeling a little overshadowed by his running mate. after all, it's hard to compete with a guy who can catch fish with his bare hands while at the same time promoting a budget that would rob kids of their free lunch meals. how much of mitt romney's campaign belong to mitt romney? you can't help but wonder if mr. romney is just going along for the ride. joining us is tim dickinson of "rolling stone." his new article is in the current issue of the magazine and an excellent read it is, too. tim, i'd like to show you something before we delve into your article. just take a listen to this, tim. >> the only thing that limits you is your god given talent and your own effort. we need to have that dynamic economy returned. do you that by growing the economy and getting people a hand up, not a hand out. teach a man how to fish, he can feed himself for a life. don't simply feed fish. >> right. sow doesn't believe in handouts. he won't even feed the fish. he wouldn't feed pigeons in central park for fear they'd be

well it's going to reflect on the down boll ballot. >> right now, obama leads romney by seven points in wisconsin. what effect do you think -- when you're traveling every day, working 24 hours a day practically campaigning, your head is around meeting people, remembering names, being nice to people, and trying to think. the other thing going on the whole time, they're trying to think to make their president. how does that get into people's minds, do you think, when they're talking to you? >> yeah, i have to tell you that when people are focusing on the u.s. senate race they're asking themselves a couple basic questions, whose side are you on? who's fighting for the hard working middle class families of wisconsin? they know i'm on their side and that's what i've done. they're also learning a lot about what tommy thompson has been doing for the last decade of his life. he left wisconsin and joined the bush administration. in his service there, he gave the drug companies a sweetheart deal with the medicare part "d" program. he made it illegal for medicare to bargain with the drug compan

the one guy who says we were building our own coffin, right? today we learned that, you know, romney was talking about harvesting these companies. i mean, again, i think he h a fuenfls a candidate. when you hear this lack of compassion, 47%, again, it plays into a central narrative and other things we have heard about him. >> okay. we've got a little bit of that tapehat karen obliquely referred to then. let's take a listen. >>ainapal i an investment partnership which was formed to invest in startup companies and ongoing companies then to take an active hand in managing them and hopefully five to eight years later to harvest them at a significant profit. >> now, that was taken from motheron min onnowoweas edited. it was clearly some kind of internal bain capital business. your reaction to that tape, michael? this man saying in his own words that his business wasn't about creating jobs. we know it never wa asut investing, piling on debt, and then harvesting value out of the companies. >> i think what it does is show the challenge of moving from the business world to politics. it's some

voters on understanding economic problems people are having right now. ama beats romney by 31 on connecting on their problems. 51 points in florida -- actuly, . on handling taxes, president obama beats romney by a wide margin, 17 points in ohio. in florida it's closer, leads by one. in handling medica, obama beats romney by 1 in ohio, 15 in florida. what i understand, looking at the differential, orida has a lot retired pple, ou very sensitive. in a sense, ohio has people who can't afford to get down to florida in the wintertime. their social security, medicare, and maybe if they're lucky, some pension and savings. you know, we've talked about this for mons now. afth10ct oba sat down and thought about what his message is, his vision is, his strategy going into 20 1237 that's what i wrote about in howdown" and he's stuck to passn, because he believes in it. there's a real distinction between him and republicans when it comes to all those issues you just talked about, but these are value-driven differences. t just poly differences. you wanto do this with the deci wanto dohat. a severe conservative wing and that's one thing that mitt romneys fighting against right now. >> it em, showing the closing ad with what the president is up to. how important is the early vote for the president's campaign and clearly it seems to be a very dominant tme why we saw closing spot if you will. >> ias thinking about the early vote because right now if someone starts voting today, th are lng at a campaign that could be very different in two weeks because sometimes these moments happen that change dynamics. >> it sounds like you're confli conflicted. >> i'm conflicted. it's great to get as many people voting as possible and if this crnecyn 'swofu races where people don't start focusing until the very end like senate races, house races, ballot races, you know, something could happen and people could change their mind and then they have no recourse. >> the demratic pty has bee so focus oarlyeor . would argue we saw it in 2000. we saw it in 2004. democrats have outorganized republicans on the early vote. is it good for democracy? >> i think it is. how long has this electioneen ing

about the situation in american government right now they said the real issue that's hanging over mitt romney is just the fact that people hate, they detest, congress, the fact that nothing gets done in washington and as one man put it, he thought it hung around mitt romney's neck like an albatross because the house of representatives, of course, has a republican majority. nonetheless, what was interesting here, while the president spoke to a larger crowd this was appeared like a specific messaging event where romney was speaking to a smaller crowd, like you're running for mayor of a major city or governor of the state of virginia. only 200 people here today. >> the other thing that's really interesting to watch in the last 48 hours how focused they are on defending against the 47% remark from the videotape that came out last week because this is something that was very clear in his comments to our colleague, ron allen in ohio yesterday. let's watch. >> don't forget, i got everybody in my state insure, 100% of the kids in state have health insurance. i don't think there's anything that
